Overlooking the Chesapeake Bay on 16 acres on Kent Island, Maryland, this residence was influenced by the simple farm structures of the Eastern Shore. It received one of six 2007 American Institute of Architects Chesapeake Bay Chapter awards for excellence. The program was divided into four pavilions, linked by hyphens, with bridges connecting the second floors. The canted north wing, containing the Master Suite, breaks the home's rigid symmetry to orient the view up the Patapsco River towards Baltimore Harbor.
The image to the left shows one of the hyphens on the ground floor, lined with books, punctuated with windows, and the underside of one of the interior bridges linking the second stories. The image above shows a view of one of the bridges beyond from the second floor landing.
